our process
Thoughtful. Seamless. Tailored from beginning to end.
At Claire Hung Design, we believe the best spaces begin with trust, intention, and clarity. Whether you're embarking on a full-scale renovation, furnishing a new home, or designing a hospitality concept from the ground up, our process is designed to be both comprehensive and collaborative—so every detail feels effortless for you, and exceptional in the end.
01 / Discovery
-
We begin with a complimentary consultation to understand your goals, aesthetic preferences, scope, and timeline. It’s a chance to ask questions, align expectations, and ensure the partnership is the right fit.
02 / Proposal & Onboarding
-
Following discovery, we provide a detailed scope of work and fee proposal. Once approved, we onboard your project with clear timelines, communication tools, and initial documentation so we can hit the ground running.
03 / Concept Design Phase
-
We scan your space using LiDAR technology, and take overall measurements to confirm accuracy of the scan conversion to 2D or 3D design software.
During this time, we also take photos of your space, any existing furniture, art and decor to be reused.
-
We sit down with you and take a deeper dive into what you’re looking to achieve — your needs, your musts, and your nice to haves.
-
In one round of inspiration sharing, you provide us with your vision for the space via a private Pinterest board with sections for each space to be designed.
We then add to these boards additional images we think represent the direction we want to take your vision.
Once complete, we hop on a call with you to review everything together — gathering your input on all of the inspiration.
-
We create initial 2D floor plans relating to:
Demolition - Showing what’s to be removed
Proposed - Showing new walls and new rooms
Lighting - Showing changes to the lighting
Power - Showing changes to the power outlets and other utilities
Finishes - Showing changes in flooring materials
Furniture - Showing arrangement of the furniture
-
These boards show select inspiration images gathered earlier in this process, along with some key pieces of furniture, finishes and lighting.
-
We take all information from previous steps in this phase and translate into a high level budget by room including a full overview of the project. Budgets include est. construction costs, est. vendor costs (like custom millwork), est. shipping costs, and est. tax.
-
We present the all concepts along with the budget and review with you, ensuring we are on track. We allow one round of revisions before proceeding to the Design Development Phase.
04 / Design Development Phase
-
We shop for all furniture — antique or new, finishes for custom items like millwork, stone, tile and upholstery, and all lighting — architectural and decorative.
-
We add details and refine the floor plans, while also drawing out elevations of most if not all walls receiving work — showing all items to be custom fabricated and installed (like millwork, upholstery, architectural elements, and lighting). Later, this set becomes a set of drawings is refined into a Bid Sets for contractors and other trades / vendors after all approvals are received.
-
A 2D Collage of the images, color and finishes representing the look and feel of the room. These are presented for all projects.
-
Offered to full-service clients only, we provide photo realistic views of all key rooms to be designed, showing all key pieces and finishes.
-
To be shared at the Design Development Presentation, illustrating color, texture and the overall palette.
-
To be shared after the Design Development Presentation, offering 2-3 options per item for your approval. One round of revisions as need per item.
-
We present the design package with elevations and floor plans for all rooms, along with furniture, plumbing and lighting selections, including samples of fabrics and finishes.
Photo realistic 3D renderings or room boards are also presented, giving you a full overview of the project.
05 / Procurement & Implementation
-
We finalize all bids and award contracts with your review and approval.
-
When doing a renovation, we coordinate with the Architect of Record to receive building approval and/or begin the permitting process with the city.
-
We update our preliminary budget with an actual spend based on your final approvals — giving you a final overview of the all in spend prior to purchasing.
-
We finalize all of your approvals into updated proposal showing all final pricing & shipping costs, receive your payment, and place all orders with our vendors.
-
We track all deliveries and coordinate with our Receiving Warehouse, which includes spec. checks of all items received at the warehouse for any damage, defects or deficiencies. We the coordinate with our warehouse and the vendor to resolve these issues on your behalf prior to the final delivery and install.
Our Receiving Warehouse is an opt-in service at an additional fee based on space & time used.
While we can also coordinate deliveries directly with you to your residence, we always recommend our receiving warehouse instead to reduce delays and unnecessary complications.
-
Whether renovating or building from scratch, we collaborate closely with your contractor (or introduce one of our trusted partners), conducting site visits, troubleshooting in real time, and ensuring the design vision is executed with precision.
01 / Project Wrap Up
-
We work with all contractors, installers, etc. to ensure their work is completed to our standards before signing off on the completion of their work.
-
We oversee the full installation of all Furniture, Art & Decor. We can also oversee any art framing, home organization and cleaning companies upon request.
-
Upon the final installation, we do a full professional photoshoot to document your project, and should you wish to purchase a Home Care Guide, all of these photos will be included within it.
-
Upon request, we offer a custom home care guide with all of the details on how to care for your new furniture and the finishes throughout your home.
